"40 Days of Water" Lenten Challenge

Every 17 seconds a child dies from waterborne diseases.  Access to clean water is extremely limited for our brothers and sisters in the 3rd World.  This Lent, we want to do something about that.  Consider joining our 40 Days of Water Lenten Challenge.  From February 17 through April 3, we'll be drink nothing but water, giving up other drinks such as coffee, soda, juice, etc.  Doing so will help remind us at each meal of the suffering of those who don't have access to clean water.  Furthermore, we'll keep track of the money we've saved by drinking water rather than buying other beverages, and at the end of the 40 days we'll collect that money and donate it to help build a clean water well in Uganda.

Midweek Lenten Services

Lent begins on Wednesday, February 17th with Ash Wednesday Worship at 7pm.  We'll continue gathering each week during Lent to worship and reflect together on Wednesdays at 7pm.  This year we'll concentrate on the theme of suffering, reflecting on topics relating to how we can suffer well, learning to minister to others who are suffering, and what it means that Jesus suffered.  During all midweek Lenten services, Children's Lessons will be offered for children age four to grade five.

Spaghetti Dinner

All-you-can-eat spaghetti, meatballs, and salad bar will be plentiful at our annual Spaghetti Dinner on Saturday, March 13 from 430 to 7pm.  Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for children ages 4 through 10.  Take-out meals are available.  This event is hosted by the Missions Commission, with all proceeds going directly to mission concerns of the church.  See you there!

Earthquake Response

The Apostle Paul calls followers of Jesus to "rejoice with those who rejoice and mourn with those who mourn."  The writer of Hebrews reminds us to remember those who suffer "as if you yourselves were suffering."  And in Galatians we are reminded to "Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ."  With these Scriptures in mind, we mourn, we remember, and we commit to do all we can to help carry the burden of our brothers and sisters in Haiti and Chile.  Look here for more information about the United Methodist Church's response and for ways to be in prayerful action.  QUMC is also sending a mission team to help with the rebuilding and relief efforts in Chile.  For more information on how to donate to our Assignment Chile team, e-mail Pastor Josh
